John Alexander Dowie

1847–1907

John Alexander Dowie (1847-1907) was a Scottish-born evangelist and faith healer who founded the Christian Catholic Church and the planned religious community of Zion City, Illinois. Known for his combative preaching style and his belief in physical healing through faith, he delivered a series of addresses in Chicago's Zion tabernacles in late 1899 that were collected and published the following year.
